I sat down a few weeks ago when I turned 37
and started this post of 40 things I really want to do before I turn 40.
I like to make lists and cross things off,
and I like to constantly give myself goals, so that life isn't too boring.
*like raising three kids leaves any room for boredom*

I might not get them all accomplished. Truth be told, I might even tweak this list some over the next three years
because time has a way of changing your mind, doesn't it?
It's gonna sound weird, but for me, it's as much about making the list as it is about crossing everything off.
Life has a way of coming in and keeping us from dreaming about things that we really want to do in life.
This is my way of dreaming out loud so someone besides me can see it and help push me toward my dreams.
Without further adieu....
2. Read through the bible again.
3. Consistently have more people in our home for dinner.
5. Write handwritten letters to friends on their birthdays.
6. attain pre-baby weight. (can't believe I just typed that!)
7. ride in a hot air balloon.
10. take a photography class.
11. family mission trip.
12. take a cooking class.
21. read 40 books.
22. Go to NYC with Andy.
23. build a fire pit.
24. get caught up on my kids' scrapbooks without losing my mind.
25. find a local place to serve.
27. weekend trip with my girlfriends.
28. Drive up Hwy. 101 from Los Angeles to San Francisco with Andy.
30. take a vacation with friends to the beach.
32. journal more regularly again.
33. go back to India.
35. hike tallulah gorge.
36. learn to knit.
I decided to do a 40 before 40 because there are way too many things that I want to do in a year.
Surely, if I give myself three years I can get it all done!

Tara you are ambitious!!! LOVE the idea of making a list. It is great to cross things off isn't it? Seeing as I only have 11 months until I turn 40 I best get cracking on some to-dos myself. I just need some more time in the day!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, there are a few things on there that I would love to do as well, like photograph a wedding, have more people over for dinner, write more letters to girlfriends...great 40 things...let us know how you do! :) oh and I hope you feel better soon...like asap...
ReplyDeleteO no too late !!! about less than a hour...i am 45.......o my...too late???? hahahhahhah!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy summertime............hugs Ria....
Well I identify with so many of the things on your list. I was just reading Daniel yesterday and thought about doing just that. Maybe we should do it together...after the kids are back in school. I'd also love to take a photography class, visit NYC with a friend, hot air balloon ride, write my prayers etc... we have similar goals:) I love Meg's blog. I'm going to do one of these lists too. Just have to really think it through first.
ReplyDeletegreat list!!!!!
ReplyDeletei love the idea of doing the same...sadly, my list would have to be FIFTY at 50-yikes.
well, at least i have 6 more years to work on that!!
always love your entries xo
Your list has a sense of humor and I enjoy that. There are so many things on your list that I have on my mental list. Maybe I should write one, too.
ReplyDeleteWe're the same age. I'd better get cracking on my list! What an awesome idea.
ReplyDeleteLove this, and when you go to the big city with your girlfriends...I want to go too :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you're doing this! You have a great list. You'll enjoy the hot air balloon ride BUT make sure you do it in New Mexico or somewhere where they fly high. I did one for my 30th bday in the Kissimmee area where they launch from and Disney has restriction on flying too high. It was a fun experience but we were too low-I was a bit underwhelmed-that and hubby had me get up for my surprise at 4:45am-was still asleep. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI had fun making a 30 before 30 list, unfortunately I made my goals a bit too lofty so many got bumped. Too funny, I just read another post this morning by Hello, Splendor on 30 before Thirty.
I think it's great to have a running list of goals and dreams. I hope you achieve them all Tara! :)
Warmly,
Karla
Now this is a race I can win :)...I'll race you to 40:) Fun post...fraid I am running out of time...
ReplyDeleteHey Tara, I got a way to take care of two of the things on your list at one time. Family Mission Trip to India. Done.
ReplyDeleteTammy! You make me smile. I totally agree with you...can you and your 47 million kids handle us?
ReplyDeletethat's the question!
Tara,
ReplyDeleteLove your 40 before 40. I guess I should start a 50 before 50 since I just turned forty! Pretty funny stuff! Floyd says we'll help you with having more people over for dinner! LOL! Love you friend!
Tahra
This is a great idea. I just recently made a 101 in 1001 days list. Excited to get going on it. Good luck to you!!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a 40 before 40 list too! I'll be 40 this December....EEEK! I need to write them all down on the blog so I will get them done! I'm working on them and am so excited to be doing it. Did I get this from you? I can't remember where I read it but it's a great idea! Love your blog♥
