Before and Afters, Part three.

A while back I started a series of posts on the "before and afters" of our house.
You can see Part One here and Part two here and here
Since it's been about ten forevers since I started that series and never finished,
I thought I'd show you the before and afters of our kitchen.

Here is a shot of what it looked like before...
it couldn't get any worse, right?

and here is what it looks like now...
the plants and light fixture that you see through that window are part of the screened in back porch

My coffee station beside the fridge

The double doors belong to our pantry and the shelving we added in order to store all my dishes

a close up of my gorgeous orange owl from TJ Maxx

I've said it about a hundred times, but I'm gonna say it again.
We don't own this house.
I think I keep repeating myself because I'm assuming there are new people reading who might not know.
And, in the spirit of keeping it real, I just want you to know that if we owned it, we'd make some changes.

Having put my disclaimer out there, we could be totally content in this house forever, if we needed to be.

After seeing these pictures, the only tweaking in this room I'll do is add a little more color.
Do you see pictures of your home and instantly know what you need to add or take away?
It's become a great way for me to finish off a room after I think I'm finished....

  7. Wow! What a change...I could be perfectly content with that kitchen. I LOVE the open shelves - I love their color and that they're so big and bold right there. You're so lucky that it's bright and open - I have to wait until 4pm for sun to come into my kitchen.
    Great job!

  18. Tara, just catchin' up here - love your open, distressed shelving in your kitchen! Lovely with the white dishes and your cute orange owl! Also I just spied your bedskirt and have to say - thank you! - because I haven't figured out how to make my bedskirt longer and I think investing in a dropcloth to make a skirt out of might be the solution....if I can figure out how to thread the bobbin on my 10 year old's sewing machine....or have her sew them for me...hmmmm...visions of bribery dancing in my head right now! Your home is lovely - thanks for sharing!

  19. Looks fantastic... your whole house does. I am a color person so of course the owl was a standout, but I collect ironstone and so the white dishes made me happy too!

  21. Stunning! Looks like a kitchen out of a magazine. :) I'm amazed at all that you have done in this home even though you don't own it. I think every home should feel like YOU no matter how long you'll be living in it or if you own it. I wouldn't even know by looking at these photos that you didn't own, you seem to take such pride in every space. :)

  22. You don't own it and put all this GREAT work into it? Wow, you should replace our tenant! Is the owner reimbursing you because you are putting a ton of value into it!

  23. You did all that and you don't own it?? Hopefully they are paying you to do all those wonderful renovations. It was so amazing Tara! Oh and that orange owl with all that gray is just the perfect pop of color. Love it!!

  24. I am going to start following your amazing blog! I love your home and it is so inspiring. We are trying to sell our home and have thought about renting because of the economy. I was having a hard time with the idea of not being able to change things and make it feel like WE belong, but.....you have shown me that it may be possible. Thanks for sharing with all of us!
