Planning a Party....

Our daughter is turning four years old this coming weekend, so I've been busy looking for inspiration.
I think it's safe to say from the looks of these pictures that I'm really into turquoise and pink!

I asked her what she wanted to do,
and she said -without hesitation- that she wanted to see the movie Tangled.
So, I'm taking her and three friends to see the movie
and then we're coming back to our house for cake, ice cream, presents and some playtime.
Easy as Pie.

The only not so easy part is making the castle cake that she has requested.
My friend, Tracey, assures me that I can do it.
After watching a couple of on-line tutorials, I'm almost convinced.

Do you have birthday traditions in your family?
The birthday boy or girl gets to eat off of our special birthday pottery plate that we made together years ago,
and they get to eat at their favorite restaurant with the family.
We also spend time together as a family telling the special birthday person what they mean to us.
And, yes, we have to remind the kids that what they say has to be nice.

I'll post pictures...even if the cake is lopsided!

  4. My kids always get to pick the meal we have and we still do that now that they are grown.
I love turquoise and pink. I have to say I never made a fancy cake though :( Always got one at the bakery or they requested a pie or some other dessert.
I started my blog... wish me luck, and a few readers!

  7. We love to hang photos (just tape them up) on a whole wall that look back over their life. Baby photos, fun memories, cherished photos -- and then we add some curly ribbon to make it festive. It is like a celebration of their whole life. Sometimes we hang birthday banners with their name, or add personal notes or cards, but even if it is just the simple photos and ribbons it is so fun to see their life covering a wall. We also have a birthday flag we hang outside. Love birthdays in our home!! :) blessings to you.....we too have our precious China doll celebrating her birthday this weekend! she turns 7! --Julie Richards

  9. Love those birthday pics! That is going to be a super fun party! I did a castle cake, and the advice I would give would be to use ice cream cones! I also used sugar cubes for the top part. They make it look really cute! Can't wait to see all your pics.

  18. I love the bit about the family telling the special birthday person what they mean to you. What a great tradition.

My oldest is about to celebrate her 10th! She's brainstorming ideas and I'm so proud that she has embraced simplicity. A girl after my own heart!

    Blessings to your birthday angel!

  20. Tara, I will be thinking about you all this weekend. I hope the "event" goes well and I just know that cake be darling. When our boys were little, I would put a balloon bouquet in their room so that it would be there in the AM when they woke up. Now that they are older, they like to go to breakfast before school. Enjoy your weekend!

  24. Hi Tara, hope your birthday party weekend is going smoothly! I wish I had read this earlier...I have made a few (imperfect) castle cakes...the best thing about baking cakes for kids is that they don't care if the outcome is not exactly professional! My kids are always so fired up about the crazy cakes I make even if they look nothing like the inspiration photos! Enjoy!!
