It's all about Perspective

I went to look for shoes today.
I've been on the prowl for the perfect pair of wedges.
I'm looking for some that aren't so high that they are completely impractical for my life.
I stay home with my kiddos most every single day,
so super high wedges and my uniform yoga pants don't go together.
Anyway, I tried on fifteen different varieties and none of them worked.
Apparently, sky high wedges are all the rage.

I came home completely bummed until I came across this picture tonight.
Needless to say, I'm not bummed at all anymore.

I see this picture and it rocks my world.
It reminds me of the countries that I've visited and the children that I've held that lacked so many basic needs.
It jolts me back to the truest reality, which is that most of the world doesn't live at all like we do.
It urges me to continue to do something...anything for those that need.

I never want to become that person who pretends that material things aren't important to me anymore
because I see a picture like this
or because I go to a country where I see these feet up close and personal.

I still want some wedges...I'm not gonna lie.
But, I'm so thankful for some perspective tonight.

Lord, help those that are alone and afraid and cold and hungry.
Be their refuge and their help.

  2. Amen. Nothing like keeping it in perspective. I try to always remember that when I think me or someone close to me is going through something bad, it could always be worse. Thanks for the reminder!

  9. Wow, you said it best with "Most of the world doesn't live at all like we do." I knew that was true, but had never seen it with my own eyes before. I see and hear things on a daily basis now that shouts into my heart to redefine basic needs.
Like Nichole Nordeman sings, "Oh the differences that often are between everything we want and what we really need."
    Amen to that.

  17. Wow Tara!! We all need a reality check now & then & I thank you for that :) Same thing goes with clothes! I get "tired" of my clothes & then hear about a family at church who doesn't have enough clothes to clothe their children or themselves. May we always thank God for the blessing we have!

  18. I just came across your blog. The photo really does remind us that we should be content and enjoy our family and friends rather than focus on 'stuff'. Thank you for sharing that and your wonderful words.

  20. This is the kind of picture that made me want to go to Africa and live in small village in a hut. I wanted to live without all the excess of America. Now that I'm getting older I'm more thankful for all the stuff we have. But I still think the simplier the happier.

  21. This post stilled my soul and silenced my complaining spirit. It also moved me to write my own post using this picture/your post as a prompt. I also pray it will move me to do something however small for someone like the person behind the face behind the feet!

  22. Tara,
You have a inner beauty that shines throughout these words within your post. I love your spirit! What a reminder for all of us to be more appreciative of what we have, and to pray for those who have little. We take so much for granted, thank you for the reminder to keep it all in perspective.

I invite you and your readers to join me in my blog that is really still under construction. It is for women who are going through divorce transitions (changes). It really is for all women who may be married, divorced, separated, or thinking about any of the three. I feel that the demise of marriage is a direct result of the devil's influence on this world. The enemy seems to strike one of the most important foundations and commitments made unto God, and that is the holy vow of marriage. Please take a moment to visit, leave suggestions, comments, thoughts or just say hello. I pray that it will be an inspiration to someone. Thanks so much.
