it's so crazy how God answers prayers.
i have whined for months about how much tv my kids have watched all summer.
but, i really didn't ever actually just turn the thing off for more than a day.
our recent move back to georgia has been God moment after God moment,
so it makes perfect sense that we got here and realized this house doesn't have tv service.
{ummm..didn't really ask for it, Lord, but thanks for knowing what we need better than we do.}
we aren't one of those families that don't watch tv,
so don't get any ideas that things are "little house on the prairie" over here.
we're super inconsistent in this area.
we start out strong in the beginning of each school year.
the tv doesn't get turned on until at least 4pm, and we usually stick to about two shows.
but, somewhere around January, we get lazy and two shows become four shows.
by the time summer hits, i'm too embarrassed to tell you how many shows they watch a day.
just know that it's too much.
we went about five days here without tv or computer.
it was amazing and awful all at the same time, if that makes sense.
our kids finally asked us if we could download netflix onto the computer, and we caved.
we love it because there aren't near the ridiculous shows offered, and we feel a little more in control.
my kids are playing outside more.
they're drawing together more at the kitchen table.
they're playing more board games.
they're throwing football.
they're collecting caterpillars by the 1/2 dozens.
and PRAISE BE TO GOD, they are getting along with each other for the most part.
I'd say we're committing to never getting cable again, but how would watch college football?
8. Seth enjoying reading his book on Abe Lincoln.
9. Luke & me enjoying working together on his English and Writing this year.
10. sweet texts from my husband everyday this week telling me that he is praying for me.
11. our real estate agent texting us today to tell us that he is showing our house tomorrow.
12. our real estate agent telling us that he is joining us in praying for the sell of our home.
13. lydia playing with two sweet girls that live across the street.
14. my one coffee cup that I didn't pack in boxes...makes me feel at home.
just know that it's too much.

We have been without TV before for a year and are doing it again now. I don't have kids yet, but I like the idea of less TV.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in school my parents limited my TV (all the way up through my high school years) to 1 show a week (or 2 30 minutes shows a week). I am so glad they did, because I experienced so much more that way.
Good for you. We have satellite TV but I have given up many shows. You know the rule garbage in, garbage out. My rule fro viewing is if I couldn't watch with my mom or Jesus, I won't watch it.
ReplyDeleteI love that you are putting your gratefulness list on your posts. I am doing that too.
I just had to comment...I LOVE reading your blog and STILL need to send you a picture of our "family rules sign... we LOVE it!! As for the TV, I hate ours. Don't get me wrong, I feel silly even saying this because I love watching TV, but it's so expensive and we tend to even eat in the living room in front of the (gulp) TV. I just HATE that we do this. I've been whining about potentially getting it turned off (especially since it would help us save money for our adoption), but I just can't get my husband on board. I think I would have more luck if I wasn't campaigning during football season! :/ Oh well... maybe we just need to get more strict about TV time. Just know its not only your family that struggles with that darn box!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it feel liberating not to have cable? We canceled our cable 3 weeks ago and its great! God is good all the time. I am so happy to hear how the Lord has open doors for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Vanessa
hey sweet girl! we only have 1 tv downstairs now so the girls get to watch a little bit in the morning and then we go down about 8pm or so. I wonder if we could go with just netflix? I miss watching the cooking channel or hgtv while I cook upstairs though and I'm completely oblivious to the news which isn't nec. a good thing. We actually watch less tv in the fall and winter. Well the girls don't but I do! Sadly, sometimes I wish I could turn on the tv just to stop the girls from fighting! I know that's the lazy way out to fortunately I don't cave!
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures.
ReplyDeleteAnd your God moments.
ReplyDeleteyou have a pouf?
ReplyDeletewhy did i not know you had a pouf?
did this make a post that i missed?
how cute are you
&
fab on the tv issue. i'm so impressed
& i will never tell you how much tv cek watched this summer....two words....toddler and tiaras baby!
We have never had cable or satellite tv at our house and probably never will. I get so tired of the tv being on and I feel like it would be on even more and with even worse shows if we didn't just watch regular old tv. We do have netflix though for something special, but I chose the shows that get added. If only they had hgtv on there :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but I don't enjoy watching TV. I just never feel good after. So other than movies, it goes unused. I think I could do without. I love how God goes before us and knows EXACTLY what is best for us.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Linsey
This is so cool. One summer I did "No TV Week" and it was awesome. We only have one Disney channel here that runs a handful of shows, over and over again. {But I still hate the TV and wish we could have escaped it!} So happy to hear your God moments are abundant and your list at the end is so cool! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love taking a break from TV!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe recently sold our tv and I love not having it. It was a process of switching to no cable and just dvds. Then we went through all our movies and threw away a bunch with language or women dressed revealing. We are trying to fill our childrens minds with Heavenly things and there is nothng good on tv. Commercialls are so bad that I turn my head in shame when we are at someone elses home. Glad to see other families cutting back on tv. So much adventure awaits outside that big black box.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! we had our first truly media free day last week, an all time favorite family memory! blessings
