One step closer to white...

I started falling in love with the crisp, clean look of all white rooms a couple years ago.
I know...I know...I'm always a little late to the show.

Here's why it took a while to convince me....I grew up with it.
My parents have had all white walls for nearly forty five years!
I spent my entire childhood begging trying to persuade them to paint those walls.

My dad prides himself {JUST A LITTLE BIT} when he figures something out before I do.
And, this isn't the first time they've known something was awesome before everyone else figured it out.
My parents have always had a garden big enough to feed us and most of the people around us.
And, I grew up with chickens in the yard way before it was cool.

So, if by some small miracle my dad happens to be reading this silly old blog, I'll humbly admit again
he was onto something when he painted every.last.wall.in.the.house white.

Ashley from The Handmade Home gives me hope that I'll eventually follow my parents' lead!
Everything in her house is accentuated against the white.
I was amazed at the difference in how her house looked before and after.

If you want some more inspiration, you can head over to Perfectly Imperfect.
Shaunna has some great posts on how she revamped her cottage one room at a time.

We're closing on our new house in just a few weeks.
Almost as soon as we bought it, it was time to tell the builder our interior colors.
Daily, I went back and forth looking through my pinterest boards for inspiration.
I was amazed at just how many white rooms I had pinned!
I was soooo close to choosing white, but in the end,  I just couldn't commit.
{sorry dad! sorry blogland! sorry pinterest boards!}
However, I did choose the lightest shade I've ever chosen, and I love them!!
...one step closer to white.

  1. Every home we have rented or bought has been white. I will never ever tire of an all white interior. It is calming to me. It makes my home feel open and airy and I always have the shades open to let the colors from nature come in. But I grew up with dark walls...dark dark browns...lots of furniture and clutter. I am the opposite. I love all the images you share here.

  2. so funny. same story here. i thought my parents' home was so boring with all those white walls. Now I'm beginning to see how it just makes everything flow so much easier. I love the color on my walls now, SW Sea Salt, but the DR and LR are a cream and it's way too yellow for me, i'm thinking...white.

  4. I think it depends on the space, and of course, the furniture. I'd have to go out and buy new stuff to go with white. Your light colors probably will feel like white without the glare. Can't wait to see the house photos.

  6. I don't know if I can go all white... I like it, but I also like just the creamy warmth of a slight color... I'm still thinking about it. LOL

  7. My father put yellow and orange Mac-Tac [before your time probably] on our foyer walls so I LOVE white, but I have experimented with color a lot too. Thanks for the links to those terrific blogs.

  8. My parents house was always dark and although, I love my mother to pieces, she doesn't have an eye for color coordination! I prefer white and light and airy curtains, pillows and other accents, with a great deal of texture. I am now starting to love the grey shades that are the in-thing, so my walls are changing, but not too far from white
    Thanks for sharing.
