Headboard Solution for my boys' room

I thought it was time to show you a little more of the house,
and the boys' room seemed like the place to show you
since we've been busy finishing up a few projects over the weekend.

We're actually putting frames on two UGA prints tonight, so I'll be back tomorrow to show you those.
One will go above each of the boys' beds, so it'll add another pop of something in that huge space!
I LOVE the prints because they have a story behind them, and you know I love a good story.

Andy made their headboards last night, and I wanted to tell you how we made them.
They are a super easy project, and an easy solution to not having a head board.
(said the wife who didn't participate at all!)

You need to decide how wide you want your headboard to be.
We bought boards in different widths from Lowe's and put them side by side.

Next, we added two support boards to the back of the boards and screwed them in.
This picture might not look it, but our head boards are vertical,
so those two support boards are actually screwed on horizontally.
{My picture is taken the wrong way, of course. }

Then, we stained the boards with Early American stain and painted the boards black.
Finally, Andy used his hand sander to lightly distress them.
When he was finished, he took a rag with just a little stain and rubbed the distressed boards down.
He finished them up by rolling on some polyurethane.

When you're completely finished with them,
you'll need to add two more support boards to the back of the head board
and then screw them into your wall behind your bed.
**These support boards will go up to the bottom of one of the other supports that you see up above**

We actually had to cut our board, as you can see, to fit around our outlet.

I'll be back tomorrow to show you the prints that we're putting above their beds.
I'm more excited to tell you the story behind them!!
I'll try to put together a resource list in the post tomorrow, too.
Hope you guys are having a wonderful Monday!
