I tried for years to not allow guns into our family.
When the boys made them out of sticks and Legos, I knew the battle had officially been lost.
I'm so glad I'm not as uptight as I used to be, and my boys and their friends are glad, too.
This was by far one of the easiest parties we've ever thrown for one of our kids.
We celebrated Seth's 10th birthday big time with an all out air soft war.
We celebrated Seth's 10th birthday big time with an all out air soft war.
He wanted a cookie cake, hamburgers, hotdogs his 3 favorite chips, and gatorade.
The party was outside, so nature served as our decorations.
What screams air soft better than trees and grass and bushes?
Okay....I did have cute dishes for all the food and a bouquet of balloons...I couldn't resist.
They laughed and carried on like true warriors for over two hours.
I only made them stop to eat and open presents and sing their finest rendition of "Happy Birthday!"
Lydia put on her pearls and amazingly hung with them the entire time.
These guys are so great, they didn't even mind!
Seth is full of life and energy and all things happy.
When he was in the womb, I knew he would be full of JOY,
and he has been since the moment we met him.
When he was in the womb, I knew he would be full of JOY,
and he has been since the moment we met him.
He never tires of being with people, and he often dreads the end of a party before it even begins.
He is energetic and full of gratitude.
He's told us thanks for the "best party ever" at least twelve times.
The funny thing is..he says that every year about every party.
This boy will be the one to keep us young at heart for the long haul.
Happy 10th Birthday today, T-man.
{thankful for}
509. our birthday boy
510. a group of friends for my boys...what an answer to many prayers.
511. slow but sure adjustment to our new routine...hopefully, I won't keep crashing at 9 pm!
512. coffee this morning.

Being from a family of girls, I was a bit squeamish when my son wanted an air soft rifle. Like you said, all attempts to keep our house gun-free were for naught (bananas can be guns too!) Simple parties are the best. Less stress and less schedule to stick to. Happy 10th to your son!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all Happy Birthday to your son.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want my boys to play with guns when they were little......some 30 -40 years ago. My husband disagreed. I finally consented to letting them have cap guns. Now one of my sons is an ATF marshall. He wears a gun everywhere. I am proud of him but sometimes it is really hard as I worry about him. I guess that is the mother in me, but who wouldn't.
I think it was brave of you to have this kind of party. What fun those boys had. Good for you.
Happy Birthday Seth!!! Love you to the moon and back, looks like a ton of fun wish we could have been there to celebrate with you!! Love the simplicity of the party, good old fashioned fun outside wins everytime!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Seth! What a day! It looks like a good time was had by all. My son would've loved this...me too, since it looks like it was simple, yet fun. I've never been much for guns either. I've given in to the nerf ones though :)
ReplyDeleteHow much fun! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you're absolutely right--what a tremendous group of boys! Great friends from great families--we're thankful to have all of you in our family's life, too.
Oh, and I love the photo of the candy table. I wanted to pull one of those bubble gums right off the screen and pop it in my mouth!
What cracked me up is when my little baby girl, two at the time, pointed her finger at me like a gun, and said, "bang, bang!" Now three, she talks about being the best hunter in the world when she's BIG. :) Following in her big brother and sister's footsteps. I think my husband about bursts with pride and excitement when he hears the kids talk about how much they love hunting. Looks like the kind of party my son will love in a couple of years when he's ten! :)
ReplyDeleteTara, I love the photo of the guys hanging out on the porch and the one below it of the two chatting in the grass. They tugged at my heart strings. They look so relaxed with each other. I pray those kind of relationships for my kids.
ReplyDeleteYou are brave! I had 2 boys and could never quite give in to the guns, water guns maybe, but I just couldn't do it. They are grown now and show a little bit of interest in hunting, but not much. We were a sports family mostly. But I do love outdoor parties and the food looks great!
ReplyDeleteJeesh, Tara, thanks a lot! Evan was reading over my shoulder when I was looking at this post and his EXACT words were "He has the coolest parents ever!" We are still resisting letting the boys shoot at each other...only target practice. So congratulations on being so hip and cool!
ReplyDeleteHi Tara I have a 18 and 15 years old boys and they did the same as a kid. They build from lego.So I give up and they did grow great, they love the Lord Jesus and are good teens.
ReplyDeleteI guess is a boy thing to do. Great party!

ReplyDeleteAs a mom of three boys, I say: Boys will be boys. Live and let live.
