Time for Routine!

August is here, people.
My oldest starts school this Friday and we follow in his footsteps next Monday!!!
We have so enjoyed this summer.
We've had our fun with sleepovers and movies and swim dates and smores.
We crossed nearly everything off that summer fun list.
Now, it's time to hunker down and relish in routine.

August is one of those months that could easily be passed right on by without a second glance.
It marks the end of summer and it could easily be a month we all dread.

Not me.
Call me crazy but there are just so many chicken fights I can watch at the pool.

August inspires me to get out my calendar and mark it up until I can barely understand how to read it.
It urges me to buy school supplies and get the kids' notebooks and backpacks ready.
It reminds me that it's time to sign myself up for a yearly bible study.

This is the month that ushers in my most favorite season of all.
No worries.  My friend Michele made me swear I wouldn't light a fall candle until after labor day!!

Is anybody out there as excited about a schedule as me?
I won't bore you with the nitty gritty details of mine, but I will tell you that my plan
is to crawl out of bed at 5:30 and RUN to the coffee pot.
I hope to be able to slowly drink and enjoy my java
while attempting to acknowledge that the day belongs to God.
I'd love to give myself to him brand new each morning
and ask him to make me available to be used by Him.
That picture sure beats the reality of what the entire past year looked like for me.
I rushed out of bed and threw down my coffee and barged through my days like a steam roller.
Yeah, it wasn't fun for me or anyone around me.

I'm also committing to going to the gym each morning to work my booty off, literally.
Andy has made me put my hand on the bible and solemnly swear that I wouldn't over do it.
I never want to experience pain like I had over this past year,
so I'll gladly find a way to get a great workout without killing myself.

So tell me what you think of August.
Are you ready for a routine?

{thankful for}
480. my kids laughing so loud with friends on the trampoline that I can hear them inside.
481. a super quiet house.
482. August and all it brings.
483. late afternoon sunlight.
484. lunch with Stephanie.

  1. August is already marked up with things to do as well and I'm a little sad that my oldest is off to Kindergarten next week but like you I'm also sort of looking forward to having an actual schedule. After the past two months of laziness I need something to get me back in gear! Oh and I'm dying to burn some Fall candles over here in CA although the 100 plus temps are ruining my plans :(

  2. For us in Virginia, the kids don't go back to school until end of August (college girl) or after Labor Day (high school boy). So I don't think about my favorite season, Fall, until about mid-September and then I sigh and put away the turquoise accents (cloudy Mason jars with sand and a tea light in them) and the starfish and other beachy things. I do need to get back into my morning routine with my Bible which somehow got supplanted by blog reading before work.

  3. I love routine. Need it. So with you. My kids don't go back until after labor day, but I'm instilling some routine now. Can't wait any longer. I'm gonna work my booty off too.

  9. As much as I am not ready for school to start, I am ready for the routine that it brings. I am ready for the Olympics to be over so that my kids will go to bed at a decent hour! I feel like they are going to bed at the same time we are and I am missing our downtime together at night after the kids are in bed. I too am ready for fall and cooler days ahead! Not to wish these last few days of summer away, but...

  12. I'm with you. I work along with the kid's school schedule, so August is always bittersweet for me too. It means giving up my freedom, and my sleeping in time. However, buying school supplies seems to make me giddy. I know, crazy. My calendar looks like a battlefield. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

  13. During the summer our son would be busy with volunteer work, youth group, Boys & Girls, etc. So our schedule would be busy. Back to school meant the addition of sports and school work. And yes, I do miss it now that he's 20 years old.
